Many animal shelters, humane societies, animal rescues, and commercial
entities have urged pet owners to have there pets spayed or neutered. Bob Barker, the popular television show host of
( The Price Is Right ) is well known for the ending phrase of each episode of The Price Is Right with the phrase: "Help
control the pet population; have your pet spayed or neutered". This was urged due to overpopulation of pets. Many unwanted
litters are thrown away, given away without cause of trust and euthanized every day.
Mammary tumors are seven times more likely to develop in cats & dogs
if they are not spayed before their first heat cycle. A uterine infection that is very dangerous known as pyometra is also
prevented. ovarian, testicular cancer and Uterine are also prevented by spaying or neutering. Chances of Breast cancer are
reduced when your pet is spayed before her first estrous cycle. A number of expensive health problems are also reduced and or
eliminated by spay or neutering. Spaying or neutering of an pet reduces fights, roaming, running away, biting, spraying,
marking territory, lunging, mounting, boxing, unwanted male animals, aggressive or nervous behavior, reducing strays and
ultimately unwanted litters.
Many animal shelters and humane societies are burden with many unwanted
litters. Many unwanted litters are euthanized each year due to over crowding. This is why animal rescues exists.
To help and reduced the animals that end up in animal shelters, animal rescues pull animals who are from shelters and place them
into foster care until they find homes. Animal rescues do not exist to rush these animals off into adoptive homes quickly,
but they try to find them forever homes were they will be safe, happy, and healthy in a responsible home.
The purpose of a forever home is so that the animal doesn't end up in harms way, from house to house, unwanted and abused.
Finding the right home is a very hard, and stressful job.
However, once a home is found. The results are very rewarding. However,
since many rescues are voluntary and run solely on donations and adoption fees. Many animal rescue cannot afford to house all
there animals in one place. That is why foster homes are desperately needed. The more foster homes that are available to
rescues, helps overcrowded shelters.
